PYJAMA DRAMA
bfa Associate Member
Developing confidence, communication, co-operation and creative thinking in children aged 6 months to 7 years through drama
A Pyjama Drama class takes children from 6 months to 7 years on exciting adventures where their imagination has the starring role. They pretend, play drama games, sing songs, dance, role-play and have lots of fun. In each session, the children explore new, imaginary worlds; one week they might be visiting the king at the castle, the next digging for buried gold and the week after they could be jungle explorers.
Although classes follow the same structure each week, so children very quickly feel comfortable and relaxed, the topic and theme is always different. This means that a child could start Pyjama Drama at six months, finish at seven years and will never repeat the same session twice.
They run four different types of drama classes, each differentiated to ensure that all activities are just right for each child's individual developmental stage:
Dewdrops, the youngest class is for babies from around six months and for younger toddlers just beginning to explore the world on their feet
Raindrops is for those older toddlers who are starting to discover the amazing world that is their imagination
Rainbows classes are for pre-school children who are becoming increasingly independent and whose imaginations are blossoming
Sunbeams is for those older children (approx 5 - 7 years) who are able to work with more independence and take their dramatic understanding to the next level
Pyjama Drama was created in 2005 by Sarah Owen, an experienced former drama teacher and has been written to support the National Curriculum. It also develops key skills in children, such as confidence, communication, co-operation and creative thinking. Classes have won lots of awards including Best Class nominations and awards from Netmums and What's on 4 Little Ones. All of the songs have been specifically written for Pyjama Drama classes and the music is skillfully incorporated into each and every class.
Here are 10 benefits of a Pyjama Drama class...

Basic Information:
Skills and knowledge required
They are looking for people who are genuinely inspired by children, passionate about the benefits of drama and who have the confidence to lead a group of children in creative play. Lots of people have drama skills without even realising it – when you read a story to a child and put on funny voices for different characters, that’s a drama skill. When you role-play and pretend with your child, that’s a drama skill too. So you certainly don’t have to be drama trained or an actor to do Pyjama Drama. Of course it goes without saying that the franchisees are all great with children, have the desire and enthusiasm to run their own business and a warm and friendly nature.
You don’t have to be a teacher either, as all franchisees are trained by an experienced teacher and are given ongoing support, help, advice and encouragement. Some experience of working or playing with preschool children is important although this experience may simply come from playing with your own children.
They also value honesty and integrity and are looking for people with a desire to do well and to succeed. Ambition is important and you need to be self-motivated in order to build and grow your own business.

BRITISH FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION
In 1977, the major franchise companies in the UK decided to set up their own association. The British Franchise Association (bfa), was formed to act in the interests of the industry as a whole in assessing and accrediting franchising companies as those which meet its criteria for the structure of the franchise business, the terms of the contract between franchisor and franchisee, the testing of the system and its success as a franchise.
On this site, we only feature franchisors who are either:
Full Members of the bfa
Full Members are established franchised businesses with a proven trading and franchising record. They are prepared to have their reputation examined by the bfa, and have an established network of franchisees.
or
Associate Members of the bfa
Associate Members have proven their ability to launch and support at least one franchised outlet for 12 months and are now in the business of building their network. There will be few franchisees whose experience you can research and a short period of time over which the business has been tested.
